Project Goal

JCD was responsible for providing and installing a new UPS battery system in building 301 at Naval Air Station Fallon.

Description

As this project was a Design-Build, JCD partnered with electricians and an electrical engineer who were very familiar with the electrical configuration within the old Top Gun tower (BG301) at NAS Fallon, NV. Through coordinated effort, JCD was required to verify and provide/install a new solid-state UPS with an integral Maintenance Bypass cabinet in building 301. The new UPS was configured to feed a new 120/208V, 3 Phase 4 wire emergency electrical panel where several selected critical “Safety of Flight” circuits were fed from. As the critical circuits were fed from four existing panels, the goal was to pull back all of them and re-feed them as a means of consolidating them into a new central emergency equipment panel. The new UPS equipment was engineered and included providing a new input and output overcurrent protective circuit breakers, conduit, feeders, bracing etc. for a whole and useable emergency branch of power. All power routed through new UPS was branched from the aging Westinghouse Power Center that converts 4160V to 208Y/120V distribution system in the main electrical room. This project required extensive coordination with the base’s fire crash house, customer/end users, and NAS Fallon’s Boss contractor to ensure mission critical operations were not impacted through the course of the project’s performance.
